He's using a method called pepakura... pretty much paper that you glue together and then add layers of fiberglass, bondo, etc., to get you to your finished project. It looks to be going pretty good so far. My patio has been taken over by all kinds of substances and tools, and every night Brian's out there after work going to town. He asked me the other day, "So when are you going to start on your costumes?" Hmmm, well I guess the answer is TODAY!
I've been pretty preoccupied with peaches in the last two weeks. Don't get me wrong, I love having a peach tree and the bounteous fruit it brings forth...but I wonder just how many peaches I've peeled. Peach pie, peach jam, jars and jars of canned peaches, peach cobbler, peach mazurka bars, another peach pie, and finally peach fruit leather. The last peach has been picked! So now on to costumes!
Black Widow
So the first costume I think I'll start on is Black Widow for my daughter who is 14. I figured it will probably be one of the easiest to recreate. After looking through the usual pattern books, I found a Kwik-Sew pattern for a basic long-sleeved, zip-up unitard. It calls for two-way stretch fabric, so basically a swimwear type fabric will do the trick. I really didn't want to go with a leather suit for my teenage daughter anyway. Hopefully the suit will have enough body stiffness to it. I found a microsuede swimwear - weird, I know- with spandex in it, we'll see how it works.
